Stockhouse & Why to Buy ENG
February 28, 2008 on 10:27 pm | In Stock Market | No Comments
An online friend told me about Stockhouse, which appears to be a very active community of investors discussing the stock market. Amongst stats, news, and such, they have a forum dedicated to just about every single stock symbol, where people share their rumors, facts, hunches, etc…
My friend believes that EnerGulf Resources (ENG.V) is an amazing buy for the following reasons:
(1) ENG will start drilling early March.
(2) ENG found the biggest virgin oil find on the planet! 6 BILLION barrels worth.
(3) ENG has done seismics â 2D, 3D and chemical tests.
(4) The Russians know there is oil there.
(5) ENG’s find will push the peak oil problem 50 years into the future and make a lot of people rich who own the stock.
(6) ENG also owns 90% of the Hartman Project.
(7) ENG is just waiting on getting the Congo Decree and the ok to drill.
(8) It is just south of the Kunene project and there is even MORE oil there!
(9) Some predict it could be a stock that is worth $100 - $500/share.
Judge for yourself. Hell if I know if any of these statements are accurate. I asked people on the forums to confirm these statements here. The stock is at roughly $3.40/each today, so let’s see where it goes in the coming days/weeks/months/years.
Berkshire Hathaway 2007 Annual Report
February 28, 2008 on 9:53 pm | In Stock Market | No Comments
Warren Buffet should be publishing his 2007 report very soon… check here.
========================
Warren Edward Buffett (born August 30, 1930, in Omaha, Nebraska) is an American investor, businessman and philanthropist.
Often called the “Sage of Omaha” or the “Oracle of Omaha”[2], Buffett is currently the largest shareholder and chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway. With an estimated current net worth of around US$56.9 billion,[1] he was ranked by Forbes as the third-richest person in the world as of April 11, 2007, behind Carlos Slim HelĂș and Bill Gates.[3]
Buffett is known for his unconventional style and frugality despite his immense wealth.[4] His 2006 annual salary of about $100,000[5] is tiny by the standards of senior executive remuneration in other comparable companies,[6] and when he spent $9.7 million of Berkshire’s funds on a business jet in 1989, he jokingly named it “The Indefensible” because of his past criticisms of such purchases by other CEOs.[7] He continues to live in the same house in the central Dundee neighborhood of Omaha that he bought in 1958 for $31,500[8], today valued at around $700,000.[9]
Buffett is also a noted philanthropist. In 2006, he announced a plan to give away his fortune to charity, with 83% of it going to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.[10] The donation will amount to approximately $30 billion, at the time of the announcement enough to more than double the size of the foundation.[11] In 2007, Buffett was listed among Time’s 100 Most Influential People in The World.[12]

I’ve been having some back pains from 10 years at a desk job, and my massage therapist just recommended I spend 15 minutes a day stretching. I found these stretches helpful.

Everyone needs an MP3 Buddy!
February 25, 2008 on 7:19 pm | In Ideas Are Cheap | No Comments
I had a room-mate for years who was as passionate about music as I am, and we would spend hours trading songs that we loved, and letting various random deep conversations emerge. I miss those times.
Now… I’ve been exchanging emails with this unbelievably gorgeous girl in Beijing, China. WOW, is she hot. Anyhow, she’s got a boyfriend. Surprise. No problem, as she’s super cool and we both LOVE music. On February 14th, we explained to each other what would make our perfect Valentine’s Day. She said:
“My ideal Valentine’s evening would be; exotic food at some tucked away restaurant that only the true food-lovers would know about, complete with a few bottles of assorted wine. This will inevitably result in a rather drunk night, which we will take advantage of by going go-karting or some other random activity. As the alcohol wears off we’d go find some kind bud and get stoned in a park, lying in the grass, sharing music on each others MP3 players. Maybe talk about the meaning of life or world conspiracies.
That is ideal.”
I then thought “sharing music on each others MP3 players”… I miss sharing music really bad! I happen to have over 30,000 songs in just about every genre imaginable that I’ve collected over the past 10 years… and I just realize now how must I would love to throw amazing songs at someone… and talk about them. So I wrote:
“I think you are my MP3 trading buddy. I’ve been wanting a few of these, where we find a song we love - that speaks to us, we actually listen to it, feel the song, take it in, and write a spattering of thoughts in an email… attaching the MP3 for the other one to experience. Then the other replies, and sends another possibly related track, or changes the mood with a nice transition, etc…”
It’s simple. You can take a week or months if you want replying. Or if you’re compelled you can ping pong daily for a while. Build a mix tape with someone over emails, and try to make it as obscure & unique, and also engaging & emotional as possible.
Now go… Be gone… and try it!
Peace.

OH MY, I’m drooling. When looking through her eyes, the sites are so so gorgeous. Crystal clear sharpness, unbelievable colors, and her intimate shallow depth of field make her large aperture so delicious! OMG, I MUST HAVE HER NOW(!*@(!@

Why Hostgator sucks?
February 19, 2008 on 8:37 pm | In Domains & Hosting | No CommentsThey are great for simple web sites that get very little traffic, but once you try to move a REAL web site that gets 1,000,000 page views a month… they don’t know how to advise you on your decision at all. I felt like I was talking to someone in a different language.

Please wait for a HostGator operator to respond.
Welcome to HostGator Live Chat! You are now chatting with ‘David K.’
David K.: Welcome to HostGator, how may I assist you?
Jason: I purchased the following web site today and would like to know what hosting plan you recommend I use to host it…
Jason: based on these stats of traffic…
Jason: http://www.quantcast.com/slopdog.com
David K.: You may want to start with a baby account.
David K.: If you need more bandwidth later you can upgrade to teh swamp.
Jason: With nearly 50,000 uniques and 1,000,000 page views a month?
Jason: I don’t want HostGator to tell me in a month that Slopdog is hogging the shared server and I MUST move to a dedicated server.
Jason: I need to know 100% upfront if these stats will be supported on a BABY account.
Jason: You know?
Jason: So… just making sure…
Jason: Some people tell me I will be fine on a shared server…
Jason: Others say some hosts have wimpy servers or whatever.. and will freak out…
Jason: So…
David K.: You should be able to do so just fine.
Jason: What makes you think that?
Jason: Just curious?
David K.: If you do not exceed the disk space and bandwidth you will be fine.
Jason: Or what are your statistics for CPU usage, page views, uniques, that force you to require a dedicated server?
David K.: Make sure you do nto exceed 25% cpu usage and it will be tolerated.
Jason: I would like to understand a little more clearly what the threshold is, so I can plan to scale up.
Jason: How can you be sure that 1,000,000 page views a month, with roughly 50GB transfer isn’t 50% CPU usage? Do you have metrics that say, 1,000,000 page views (or whatever stat) on our avg server will take 10% cpu or something?
Jason: Also, do I have a way to monitor CPU through cpanel or something?
Jason: HELLO?
David K.: There is not.
David K.: You are limited to 25% cpu.
David K.: You will be limited to 25% CPU for up to 90 seconds at a time, 500 emails per hour, 50,000 inodes, and 25 simultaneous mySQL processes.
Jason: Hmmmm…
Jason: How do you suggest I confirm more accurately if this very active site will satisfy your BABY plan, or a shared plan? If I get current CPU usage stats?
Jason: It’s a very time consuming process to move the site to your servers, and I do not wish to do this, unless I know what I’m getting into… that’s all.
David K.: If you are using 50% cpu usage you will need a dedicated.
Jason: does that not depend on the power of the server, however? for instance, if it is at 20% cpu usage on a server that is 3 times more powerful than the hostgator server, then once i move it, it will be 60% cpu usage on your server… no?
David K.: That is correct.
Jason: ok
Jason: so do you have a white paper, or a more accurate way to figure this out?
Jason: at this time i dont feel confident moving over to you guys, and i really would like to earn that confidence…
Jason: or perhaps i could chat with a network engineer for a moment?
There may be a problem communicating with David K.. Please wait while your chat is transferred to another operator.
Welcome to HostGator Live Chat! You are now chatting with ‘Alex S’
Alex S: Welcome to HostGator, how may I assist you?
Jason: Hi.
Jason: Did David K bring you up to speed, or should I explain from the top?
Alex S: One moment please.
Jason: ok
Alex S: I’m afraid that the kind of traffic you expect would not be appropriate for a shared plan
Jason: This is what I need to understand.
Jason: What makes you come to this conclusion, what is the threshold?
Alex S: Most sites are php based and deliver dynamic content. That puts more load on the server. With that kind of load, a shared plan would not be appropriate
Jason: Can you quantify what the threshold is in statistics between a Hostgator shared server and a dedicated server?
Jason: in page views, uniques, bandwidth, cpu usage?
Jason: etc…
Alex S: It depends on what kind of dedicated server you have. But I cannot get that information because I don’t know anything about what your site consumes in reality
Jason: and what the ceiling is for a dedicated server? if i move slopdog to a dedicated hostgator server at $179/month… at what point will i outlive this solution?
Jason: then how can you come to the conclusion that i need a dedicated server???
Jason: I gave David K very accurate numbers. Did he not share them?
Jason: http://www.quantcast.com/slopdog.com
Jason: HELLLO??
Alex S: Please wait while I check.
Alex S: Are you having trouble with your current host?
Alex S: This chat will now be terminated due to inactivity.
Alex S: Thank you for using HostGator Live Chat. Â Your opinion is very important to us. Â When closing the chat, please take a minute to fill out the brief survey that pops up so that we may continue to improve our customer service and support.
Chat session has been terminated by the site operator.
